Liberian former warlord Prince Johnson, known for overseeing the brutal murder of former president Samuel Doe, has passed away at 72. Johnson, who played a significant role in the country's civil wars, later became a senator and political kingmaker. He died from complications of high blood pressure.

Johnson rose to notoriety after his men captured, tortured and mutilated former president Doe before executing him.
