Caden Cox was once lauded by Hocking College as the first college football player with Down Syndrome to score. Now he is suing the college for discrimination.

, who garnered national attention in 2021 when he kicked an extra point and became the first person with Down syndrome to play and score a point in an NCAA or NJCAA college football game, filed a federal lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

The harassment culminated in May 2022, according to the lawsuit, with Kmosko threatening Cox with a knife in the bathroom of the Student Center. Kmosko resigned from Hocking College and was later convicted on menacing charges in the Athens County Municipal Court as a result of the incident. On Jan. 10, Cox updated his harassment and discrimination complaint with information about the rescinded graduation awards. On the same day, Cox’s parents — Mari and Kevin Cox, both Hocking College employees at the time — received a notice from the college's human resources director indicating that that he was on campus"interrupting the workday of various persons following the return from winter break," according to the lawsuit.The Coxes were sent a reminder of Policy 2.
