Former guard wants SAHRC to probe ‘bloody baboon’ racism claims

A security guard who was dismissed by a well-kown company wants the SA Human Rights Commission to reopen a closed investigation into an alleged racist incident that happened more than a decade ago.

In his appeal to the SAHRC in November, City Press understands that Namadzavho Ramadanga asked the commission a question: “What is the difference between a monkey and a baboon?” The former Fidelity security guard, who was stationed at a Marko store in Germiston, had approached the SAHRC in 2015 to investigate allegations that he had been “unfairly treated” when he was fired in 2010.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
