Brian Ontiveros is accused of fatally shooting Marissa Jernigan, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child, on June 8, 2019.A frantic 911 call from a woman who told dispatchers that a friend had just been shot by “her baby daddy” marked the start of the murder trial of Brian Ontiveros on Tuesday.
Arriving San Antonio police officers found Jernigan bleeding heavily and unconscious. She was taken to a hospital and died shortly after.Prosecutor Joshua Sandoval told the jury that Jernigan was “a mother, daughter, friend,” someone who deserved what life had to offer, but also a victim of domestic violence.
He told the panel that Jernigan and a friend were visiting in her apartment. Jernigan had confided that she no longer wanted to be with Ontiveros, her ex-boyfriend and the father of Ryder, Jernigan’s only child, when a rock broke a window, Sandoval said. “He desperately told her to be with him. She said no. He pushed the friend and fired at her 10 times.”and eventually was captured more than two years after the incident.
