The allegations stem from a multibillion-rand contract between Eskom and a Swiss engineering firm who subcontracted a local company where Koko's stepdaughter is a stakeholder:
Former Eskom acting chief executive Matshela Koko, his wife Mosima and his stepdaughter Koketso Choma have been arrested by the NPA’s Investigating Directorate on charges of corruption.
The allegations stem from a 2015, multibillion-rand contract between Eskom and Swiss engineering firm, Asea Brown Boveri , who subcontracted, Impulse International, a local company where Choma is a stakeholder.The government will not be meddling with the Eskom board The owner of Leago Engineering, the company that was initially awarded a R96 million subcontract by ABB prior to Impulse International, Thabo Mokoena, was also arrested.
Under Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, the judicial commission of inquiry found that Koko had been “an integral component of the Gupta family’s strategy to capture Eskom”. It was further recommended that the former Eskom CEO be criminally investigated for various other state related deals including the Guptas’ controversial Tegeta deal.
