A former Douglas County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of introducing bringing a lighter into the jail and giving it to an inmate.

Carley Jackson, 24, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of introducing contraband second-degree, bribery, attempt to influence a public servant, first-degree official misconduct and conspiracy, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Wednesday. Bribery and attempt to influence are felonies and the remaining charges are misdemeanors.

The sheriff’s office opened an investigation on May 25 after inmates made allegations that Jackson had a sexual relationship with an inmate and that she had brought contraband into the jail, according to her arrest affidavit. Jackson was tasked with documenting all the items found but failed to document the lighter, according to the affidavit.
