Veteran coach Stuart Baxter remains engulfed in an intense relegation battle two months after being appointed as head coach of Swedish second-tier outfit Helsingborgs IF. Read more here ▶️
Baxter was named initially as the technical advisor at the Swedish second-tier outfit in December 2022 after the club suffered relegated from the top flight. However, with HIF starting off badly, the 69-year-old assumed the coaching reins on an interim basis from Alvaro Santos and Mattias Lindstrom on April 19.
Since his appointment, Baxter – who has a short-term agreement to the end of the season – has a record of just two wins, three defeats, with four draws at HIF who will play their next game on June 27 against Mjallby AIF. Helsingborgs remain in the relegation zone in second from bottom in Sweden’s second-tier league with 10 points from 12 games.
Baxter's side face an uphill battle to clinch promotion to the top league , with 18 games remaining, with the top two teams guaranteed of automatic promotion. Utsikten BK and Frederic Nsabiyumva’s Vasteras SK already seem odds-on for those two promotion spots.Baxter was sacked by Kaizer Chiefs in April 2022 after being in charge for just under a season in his second stint which didn’t match up to his first when he won four trophies in three years.
