Look no further than the Niagara River Lions, who take on the Scarborough Shooting Stars Friday afternoon in the first game of a semifinal doubleheader. The nightcap features the host Ottawa BlackJacks versus the Hamilton Honey Badgers, with the two winners advancing to the championship final Sunday afternoon.
“Oh, man, so many ,” Raso said following one final pre-game practice Friday. “I was telling the guys that I was so excited to come up here. I haven’t been back since our Alumni weekend in 2018 and I lived two minutes down the road on Bank Street. The River Lions not so secret weapon is Ahmad, who claimed CEBL most valuable player honours on Wednesday.
“And then he’s just a mismatch problem. The other guys that play his position are too small. The guys who are bigger and cover him are too slow. And the crazy thing about him, which you don’t really notice because he’s always under control, is that he is never stopping attacking.” “All it takes is the right opportunity, circumstances,” he said. “You’ve got to keep your head down, keep grinding, stay humble, stuff like that.”“I like it, it’s like home,” he said. “I forget I’m in Canada sometimes. It’s crazy. I’m like, ‘what the heck?’ It makes me comfortable for sure.”
