he reportedly told them he was “hiding from the Russian mafia,” when he accidentally shot an acupuncturist in 2019. Police say he had cocaine in his system.
Bannan, 42, was found guilty in September of attempted murder and first-degree assault, according to a USA Today report after a bizarre incident that ended in the shooting at Black Lab Sports, located in Boulder, back on Oct. 16, 2019.
The victim, Ashley Marie, was acupuncturist who showed up to work to find Bannan hiding in her treatment room. When she opened the door, Bannan shot her, and when police showed up he reportedly told them he was “hiding from the Russian mafia,” and got spooked when she opened the door. During the trial, his defense team reportedly plead guilty by insanity, claiming that Bannan, who spent 12 years in the NFL, was affected by head injuries suffered playing football. But, prosecutors pointed out that Bannan was found at the scene with a rolled $20 bill that “contained traces of cocaine at the time of his arrest,” and that he later tested positive for the drug.Bannan was a fifth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2002.
