Sure, it’s not the tony Los Angeles community identified in the show’s title, but it has hills, and it’s among the toniest of the Vancouvers.
Riding high on the success of the X-Files revival — and no doubt hoping to piggyback off the success of The CW’s Riverdale, which also films in the area — the TV network has announced plans to bring back the classic teen drama, Beverly Hills, 90210.
In reality, the reboot, simply titled 90120, is scheduled to shoot in North Vancouver from May 21 to July 31. It’s a big move away from the original series, which was produced in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Van Nuys, but it’s hardly the biggest move away from the original series: The so-called reboot will have more of a mockumentary format, according to FOX.
The reboot will unfortunately be missing Luke Perry, who became a ’90s teen idol for his role as the brooding Dylan McKay on the original show. Perry, who also starred on Riverdale, died of a stroke in March. He was not signed on to the reboot, but his former co-stars told Variety that the show intends to find a way to honour him.
