The ban covers outdoor fires on forest land, or within 300 metres of forest land, in the central and eastern areas of the island portion of the province. Bragg said in a release that the ban will come into effect from midnight on Aug. 6 until midnight on Aug. 16. The ban was put into place due to recent dry weather, wind and hot temperatures and the fact that there are a number of large fires already burning in the province.
More information is available by contacting local district forestry and wildlife offices, a list of those offices is available at gov.nl.ca/ffa/department/contact-forestry/.
