How can an organization's purpose satisfy all stakeholders? Measuring efficiency is not the answer.

As AI leads an inexorable march towards automation, it is becoming increasingly easy to measure every part of an organisation. But will this lead to better management and make companies more efficient?

Efficiency is a fine goal, but why are we trying to create efficiencies and for whom? Many of us are familiar with the feeling that you have spent so much effort on achieving a goal that you have forgotten the purpose. In order to understand who we are trying to create efficiencies for, we need to look at the purpose of an organization. Is it solely to make money in the most streamlined way possible or are there other reasons for companies to exist?, the idea that the purpose, and indeed moral obligation, of a company was to maximise profits for shareholders.
