The National Capital Commission says its efforts to open the Rideau Canal Skateway have \u0022come to an end\u0022 for the season.

“We already look forward to welcoming visitors to the world’s largest skating rink next winter,” the NCC said, adding that winter activities still abound, including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on its trails. This would have been the 53rd season of skating on the canal, which began in 1970-71 with a six-metre-wide skating track on the canal ice surface to Dows Lake.
