Jaivian Thomas becomes the first running back to commit to Cal in the 2023 recruiting class.
McClymonds running back Jaivian Thomas announced on Tuesday night he will play for Cal.. “Thank you to all the coaches for this opportunity. Excited to get to work!”
Later that night, he told the Bay Area News Group that having the opportunity to play college football in a major conference was an important factor in his decision. “It’s big for me to have the opportunity to play in the Pac-12,” Thomas said via text. “Cal is a place filled with opportunities not only on the field, but also off of it.”The three-star prospect also had offers from San Jose State, Sacramento State, Rice, Army, Idaho and UC Davis.He joins a running back room that includes honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection Jaydn Ott.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Thomas rushed for 2,528 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading McClymonds to the Division 2-AA state championship game. Thomas ran for at least one touchdown in every game he played this season and also started at defensive back for the Oakland Athletic League champions.
