Brazilian football legend Pele has died aged 82 after a long battle with bowel cancer, his manager confirmed this evening.
He had been moved to end-of-life care at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paolo after his body stopped responding to chemotherapy.
He scored more than 70 goals in 92 appearances for his country, and remains the record goalscorer. He was nicknamed The King after capturing attention in the 1958 World Cup, when he became the youngest player to score in a World Cup final at 17.
