Last week’s rare storm left hundreds without power.

A foot of snow fell in parts of the Santa Cruz Mountains as a rare winter storm spread across the Bay Area on Thursday, Feb. 23.

“It felt like the house was going to blow down,” said Los Gatos resident Caroline Slivkoff, who lives off Summit Road. “We woke up [Friday] and everything was covered in snow – like, a lot of snow. Not just the dusting we’ve had in the past.” “The trees around here aren’t made for snow, and the weight of the snow just was too much for their branches or the entire tree itself,” Slivkoff said. “We’re in the forest, and all you could hear was the cracking and falling of trees. It was really eerie, it was like being in a movie.”

Slivkoff, who was one of the hundreds of Santa Cruz Mountain residents left without power, said she’s frustrated with the utility’s frequent power outages.
