Those who receive monthly payments for groceries via Wisconsin's FoodShare program, the state's equivalent to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, will have their benefits for the month of August delivered to them within two days.

The food stamps program issues payments every month from the second through the 15th, depending on the eighth digit of a person's Social Security number. Distribution of payments for the program for this month will conclude on Aug. 15.Most recipients enrolled in the FoodShare program have already had their benefits loaded onto their Wisconsin QUEST cards.

People with zero as their eighth digit got their benefits on Aug. 2, those with one as their eighth digit received their payment on Aug. 3, those with two as their eighth digit got their benefits on Aug. 5, those with three as their eighth digit received their monthly payment on Aug. 6, those with four as their eighth digit got their benefits on Aug. 8, those with five as their eighth digit got their payment on Aug. 9, those with six as their eighth digit got their payments on Aug.

The remaining beneficiaries, those with eighth digits of eight or nine, will receive their payments for the month on Aug. 14 and 15, respectively. Payments from the FoodShare program may be used to purchase bread, cereal, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dairy,"snack foods," nonalcoholic beverages, and seeds and plants to grow food from eligible stores.Benefits from the state's food stamps program may not be used for alcohol, hot foods, tobacco, medicine, vitamins, live animals,"food to be eaten in the store," or other nonfood items.

The qualifications to be eligible for the FoodShare program in the Badger State include not making more than a certain income depending on the size of an applicant's household. Households of one may not make more than $29,160 per year before taxes. More information on the program and eligibility can be found on the state's website.
