A food inspector's main job is to keep the public safe from any potentially harmful food that is sold across the country - so what foods would they always recommend avoiding?

A food inspector has revealed the items sold in UK supermarkets that they will always avoid at any cost due to health and safety reasonings.

The Food Standards Agency are the ones who set the guidelines in the UK for any food and drink sold, distributed, sourced and maintained in British supermarkets. So as it is not pasteurised, this can increase the risk of harmful germs entering consumers - including salmonella, listeria, E.coli, brucella and more.

Top Health Stories Today "If you're going to eat pre-cut produce raw, you are dealing with the same amount of microbial risk as you would with sprouts," Dr Quoc Le said. "That's because I don't know what the person behind the counter has done while cutting the produce and what practices they implement. Packaged food, by law, has to go through a stringent process but food that has been produced on-site doesn’t necessarily.
