Months after post-tropical storm Fiona damaged École Évangéline and forced its students to relocate to a temporary campus at the community exhibition grounds, the school community is looking forward to the day they return to the classroom.

École Évangéline students are expected to return to school by Jan. 30, with hopes of getting the intermediate and high school students back to class, sooner. The K-12 school was heavily damaged in post-tropical storm Fiona. - Maurice Hashie/Special to SaltWire NetworkABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I.

“Some of the parents were thinking ‘OK, when we open up right after Christmas, they’re going to be there,’” said Arsenault. “We thought we could, but … we couldn’t move them, so the original date is still respected.” “With the security of the kids and your staff in mind, it just made sense to stay where we are,” said Morency.

Despite the loss of parts of the school, Arsenault said there is no concern about lack of space for students. “We still have to wait for contractors and consultants to give us more specifics on what’s happening and when we’ll be ready to make those moves,” said Morency.
