The proposal to exempt posts that incite terrorism was voted down because the bill “already authorized removal of that kind of content,” said state Rep. Briscoe Cain, the Deer Park Republican who carried the bill in the House. HeRepublicans have long argued their views and ideas routinely face discrimination or even censorship from Silicon Valley’s most prominent online platforms.

Twitch — and other platforms that remove the Buffalo shooting video — could be protected from House Bill 20 because they are not regulating a viewpoint. The order, which did not evaluate the constitutionality of House Bill 20, revives the law while the court considers a ruling on the merits of the case. In the meantime, the two industry groups that filed the lawsuit — NetChoice and the Computer & Communications Industry Association — on Fridaywith the U.S. Supreme Court, in which they asked the justices to put the law back under a temporary pause.
