Fly-tippers could face driving bans under Tory plans to crack down on the blight of anti-social behaviour.
Proposals to be published today will enable the courts to impose driving penalty points as well as fines on those convicted.
Writing on MailOnline today, Michael Gove says the measures will allow communities to 'take back control' of their neighbourhoods. Mr Gove says the Conservatives will also take a 'zero-tolerance approach' to fly-tipping, adding: 'Those who litter indiscriminately and dump their waste on others' streets will be hit in the wallet and face sanctions on their driving licences.
More than one million fly-tipping incidents were recorded last year – up by almost a third since 2010. But the number of fixed penalty notices handed out fell by 25 per cent on the previous year to just 69,000. Helping the overlooked and undervalued communities that voted for Brexit in 2016 and Boris in 2019 to see real change for the better in their neighbourhoods.
We have put the heart back into these communities with our levelling up programme. Central to that has been reclaiming our streets. Taking back control of public spaces.Pictured: Nitrous oxide canisters discarded by the side of a road near Ebbsfleet, Kent And we have a clear plan to go further. We will roll out our successful hotspot policing programme across England and Wales with the thousands of officers we have recruited to move on troublemakers and nip anti-social behaviour in the bud.
We will extend the Fund into the new Parliament so every community has the chance to preserve and enhance what is dear to them in their neighbourhood. Labour just doesn't get that sense of pride in our heritage, that practical patriotism.Pictured: Bins overflowing on Weymouth beach in Dorset
