The pilot of a rescue helicopter said he heard two loud bangs before losing control and crashing through an apartment roof in Pompano Beach, Florida.

A Broward County Sheriff's fire rescue helicopter crashed into a residential building in Florida on Aug. 28. crashed into an apartment building,Pilot Daron Roche said he heard the bang at about 400 feet shortly after the twin-engine Broward County Fire-Rescue helicopter took off from Pompano Beach Airpark on Aug. 28, thepreliminary report said. The crew was on the way to pick up a victim injured in a traffic accident.

The fire warning light had illuminated, so he activated the suppression system, but the temperature gauge kept rising, Roche told investigators.
