The tributes have been left near Knightsbridge in Stockport

Floral tributes have been left at the scene after a man was found dead in the River Mersey in Stockport.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, was pulled from the water by underwater search teams on Sunday November 6. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Yesterday, officers confirmed that they had identified the man. Today, floral tributes and messages have appeared on a bridge near Knightsbridge in Stockport town centre.Emergency services were called to a concern for the welfare of a man in a stretch of the river near to Knightsbridge at about 11.15am on Sunday . A wide cordon was put in place, as police, firefighters and underwater search teams were scrambled to the scene.

Now, bunches of flowers and messages of condolence have been tied to a bridge over the River Mersey where the man was discovered. The man has not yet been named. Police said previously that there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.
