More than 400,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were without service Saturday morning, trees were down and roads closed as the remnants of hurricane Fiona ...

NSP president and CEO Peter Gregg said in an interview at 8:30 a.m. that the damage “is pretty widespread. The track of the hurricane probably caused the most physical damage on the Eastern Shore and in Cape Breton, but we still saw significant damage in the metro area as well.”

Damage assessors are fanned out across the province and started their work at first light. Craig said early indications are that the type of damage “is across the board. Trees down across lines, large branches down on lines, and we have a number of areas that reported poles that have broken.” Four power were toppled on Highway 358 near Hillaton, Kings County during high winds from hurricane Fiona.

Whether additional help is called in from other provinces on top of those crews already here is a decision that will come after the damage assessments are finished.
