Flood watch remains in effect for lower Junction Creek

Conservation Sudbury has issued a flood watch for the Whitson River and the Vermilion River, and is maintaining a flood watch for lower Junction Creek.

More specifically, the flood watch for Whitson River covers parts of Val Caron and Chelmsford, while the Vermilion River flood watch covers parts of Dowling, Chelmsford, Whitefish and Nairn Centre. The Junction Creek floor watch covers the Naughton and Whitefish areas. More generally, a water safety message remains in place for all watercourses in the city due to high water flow, melting snow and ice and unsafe banks.“Warmer temperatures have accelerated the snowmelt resulting in a sudden rise in water levels and flow,” Conservation Sudbury said. “Most of the snowpack within the City of Greater Sudbury has melted over the past several days, however the upper reaches of all watercourses still have a significant snowpack.

The conservation authority says properties adjacent to the lower parts of Junction Creek , the Whitson and Vermilion Rivers, and their tributaries are at a higher risk of flooding and occupants should be prepared for that eventuality. Below you can find the flood messaging Conservation Sudbury uses.
