For the first time since Kellen Mond’s senior year of 2020, too, the Aggies enter a season with a clearcut starter at quarterback, giving Reed time to absorb the college game and minus the pressure to perform early. Sophomore Conner Weigman of Bridgeland High, a five-star signee in the class of 2022, has earned the job following a solid showing over the second half of this year.
Based on current projections — and in this new era of college football always subject to change —A&M’s depth chart at quarterback for 2023 looks like this: Weigman, Johnson, Reed and walk-on Blake Bost. Last February around the traditional signing day Kiffin had joked that A&M should pay a “luxury tax” on its top-rated class of 2022, based on the new rules under name, image and likeness . Fisher then referred to any SEC coaches who would push such a narrative about A&M as “clown acts.”
