For those first two periods, at least, it seemed like the Flames were back at their best and thoroughly outclassing the Blues. A two-goal lead with 20 minutes to go isn’t comfortable, by any means, but the Flames were largely controlling play and had objectively been the better team through the first two periods. Do more of the same and it was completely reasonable to expect them to see this one out. They are, after all, 16-1-3 when leading after two periods this season, even after Tuesday’s loss.

But Thomas’ goal just 28 seconds into OT gave the Blues brought them to within two points of the Flames. The Western Conference wildcard race looks like it’s going to be an absolute dogfight this season and every point is going to count.
