Ron DeSantis returned to the GOP presidential campaign trail with a low-key, no-press luncheon in central Pennsylvania Tuesday attended by about 40 donors.
Michelle Nestor, a GOP committee person for Cumberland County and a member of the Cumberland Valley School Board, said she wanted to see DeSantis up-close before deciding between him and the GOP front-runner, former President Donald Trump. After the lunch session with DeSantis, Nestor says she’s nearly sold on the Florida governor as the best Republican to beat President Joe Biden in 2024.
“The economic growth that’s taken place; the fact that they have freedoms down there. They didn’t shut down for COVID,” Naylor said. But it wasn’t just the message. After hearing reports that DeSantis can come off awkward and stiff during campaign events, Nestor said she wanted to take the measure of the man.
