Siyabonga Mnisi, a five-year-old from South Africa, was laid to rest on Sunday after his death from a suspected food-borne illness. The young boy, a Grade R student, fell ill after eating snacks allegedly purchased from a local shop. His family and teachers mourned the loss of a bright and cheerful child who had a promising future.
Five-year-old, Siyabonga Mnisi, who died on Wednesday of a suspected food-borne illness has been laid to rest. Mourners gathered at his home in Diepkloof, Soweto to bid him farewell on Sunday.
“When I heard the news of his passing, I didn’t know what to say, because he was supposed to graduate on Friday and now, it never happened. He was happy for his graduation. But now his graduation is celebrated today. Farewell, my child,” she says.She’s urged parents to be cautious of what their children purchase and consume.
Gauteng education department spokesperson Steve Mabona says the department is deeply saddened by the tragic incidents. He says the relevant authorities are conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the latest incident.
