This article highlights five crucial things South Africans need to be aware of before the deadline of 31 March 2025, impacting SASSA grant recipients, matriculants, and visa applicants.
The date 31 March 2025 holds significant importance for numerous South Africans, including recipients of SASSA grants and matriculants. Before the first quarter of 2025 ends, South Africans need to be aware of several key deadlines. The start of 2025 brings about changes that may affect millions, potentially leading to the cessation of essential grants for some.
Here are five crucial things to know before March 31st:Firstly, SASSA grant beneficiaries must ensure they collect their cards by the deadline to avoid any difficulties when receiving payments. Secondly, the Central Application Clearing House (CACH) system will automatically load the information of matriculants who applied through the Central Application System (CAS) but didn't receive tertiary offers. Universities and colleges with available spaces can then access this system to identify qualifying students. Thirdly, the new deadline for switching to digital television has been set for 31 March 2025, following multiple extensions. Minister of Communications Solly Malatsi recently announced this update.Fourthly, visa and waiver applications that are still pending as of November 2024 have been automatically extended until the end of March. This applies to long-term visa applications, appeals, and waiver requests. Applicants who abandon their visa applications by the deadline may do so without being declared undesirable. Similarly, those awaiting outcomes on their applications can travel in and out of the country within this timeframe without being declared undesirable. However, non-visa exempt applicants requiring a port of entry visa for re-entry should be aware of this. Lastly, SASSA SRD grant beneficiaries might receive their final payments at the end of March, although Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana will confirm this next month. Recipients can expect to receive their January payments from Saturday, 25th January, continuing until Friday, 31st January 2025.
