South Africa is the only country out of the first eight nations to become full members of world governing body ICC to have never qualified for a men’s World Cup final
Proteas ODI captain Temba Bavuma is determined to make history with the team and reach the finals of the tournamentThere were hardly any surprises in South Africa’s squad announcement for the Cricket World Cup to be hosted by India in October and November.The side will be captained by Temba Bavuma, who will be leading the team in his first ODI World Cup that will run from October 5 to November 19.
The global tournament will also mark the first time that Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter will guide the team at a World Cup as the main man in charge. The men's team will be determined to emulate their women counterparts, the Proteas Women's side that reached the T20 World Cup final on home soil earlier this year.
The women's side lost out to Australia, which was the first senior Proteas team to reach the final of a World Cup.Temba Bavuma will lead the side in his first ODI World Cup and is one of 8 players who have earned their maiden World Cup call ups.
