The names of five constables who have fallen in the line of duty will be inducted into the Ontario Police Memorial during a remembrance ceremony outside of Queen’s Park today.
The annual service, a tribute to Ontario’s police officers killed while in service, will see thousands of uniformed police officers from across the province and beyond in attendance.Toronto police officer Andrew Hong’s name will be carved into the memorial today. Hong, who was running a police motorcycle training course, was slain outside a Tim Hortons in September last year.
Constable Devon Northrup and Morgan Russell from South Simcoe Police, who succumbed to their injuries after answering a disturbance call in Innisfil, Ontario, will be remembered at today’s tribute. OPP Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala, fatally shot after being ambushed by a man and a woman while responding to a call for a vehicle in a ditch south of Hamilton in December last year, will also be inducted into the Wall of Honour today.
The Ontario Police Memorial will have one historical addition to the Wall of Honour, Durham Regional Police Constable Vicki Lynn Wilson, who was killed in 1992.
