There isn\u0027t an American League team that would be heavily favoured in playoff series vs. Jays
After a 4-2 trip in which they took two of three in both the Bronx and at the Trop, the Jays have won seven of their past nine and are winning games the way good teams do in the post-season.
With six games remaining, the 87-69 Jays likely need just two wins to qualify and, if they lock up a spot soon enough, can start aligning their pitching staff and resting players for what awaits next week. Now, about that road to the World Series, one not nearly as treacherous as one might think for a team that has mostly under-achieved yet is suddenly putting the pieces together for a potential stirring run.
As great as story as the O’s have been this season — and their status as a bright young team of the future is well-earned — the Jays veteran presence and stellar pitching staff might actually give them an edge. Win that and it’s on to the ALCS and face whatever remains of the AL West and the Central-winning Minnesota Twins.
As the Jays meandered through the regular season with maddening inconsistencies, the goals shifted from dominating and taking the division to getting hot at the most opportune time. Look, the Jays still have their flaws, but there isn’t a playoff-bound team in the AL that doesn’t, most notably the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros, who are now life-and-death just to get in.
