The government's first deportation flight is expected to set off for Rwanda today – with just a handful of people will be on board.
The courts have ruled the flight can go ahead – but people scheduled to be on it are still having their personal legal challenges heard
Ministers are said to privately believe the chances of the flight actually taking off at 9.30pm as planned are ‘very, very slim’, with more legal challenges likely to be launched in the next few hours. The policy has drawn protests and activist lawyers have taken up the cases of people scheduled to be on board the first flight It has been met with widespread opposition, even reportedly drawing private criticism from Prince Charles,Campaigners attempting to prevent the plane from taking off saw a last-ditch challenge fall at the final hurdle yesterday.
