John Swinney has been dragged into the row over claims the SNP has used taxpayer-funded stamps for election campaign purposes.

Claims Mr Swinney’s office manager was involved in ‘discussions’ about use of stationery allegedly paid for by the public purse

A Scottish Conservative spokeswoman added: ‘The rules are clear. It’s for the SNP to answer if they have stuck to them.’ A third person, said to work for deputy leader Keith Brown, wrote: ‘I asked at the mailroom and he said no.’ One person responded to that final message with a cry-laughing emoji, and another with a shocked face emoji.

When the allegations first surfaced at the end of last week, a Scottish parliament spokesman said: ‘We take the use of publicly funded resources very seriously.
