Analysis of the first half of the matchup between Notre Dame and Duke
Updated September 30, 2023 8:31 PMIt was a sloppy first half for Notre Dame in all phases, especially offense and special teams. Notre Dame had seven penalties, and all of them were unforced . There were also multiple drops and miscues.
*** Notre Dame went 11 personnel a lot more than I thought they would. They were aggressive throwing the ball down the field early, but went away from that after the first series. The rest of the half they focused mostly on levels concepts that Duke's zone looks were able to jump. *** Notre Dame did a very good job mixing up its looks early in the game. They played base defense more than we've seen in the past and allowed the defensive line to attack, and they did a good job shutting down the run and getting good pressure. They did bring pressures, but not as heavily as we've seen most of the season. They would also show pressure and sink.
