Rain that will be steady to heavy at times and embedded thunderstorms that could be severe, leads to a First Alert Weather Day for the opening round of THE PLAYERS.
Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says an unsettled weather pattern already caused issues for practice rounds at The PLAYERS as the course closed down to the public yesterday afternoon due to inclement weather. On and off showers through the morning commute will then give way to scattered rain and storms in the afternoon. That will bring the threat of strong to severe weather.
Rainfall amounts will be on average 2 to 4 inches but locally we could see a half a foot or more. Keep the rain gear handy into Saturday midday, as times of heavy downpours are anticipated for Friday and then Saturday, as a powerful and polar cold front plows through between around 10 am and 2 pm.Northwest winds will gust near 25 - 35 mph late Saturday afternoon. An inland freeze is possible Saturday night with wind chills in the 20s for the entire area daybreak on Sunday morning.
