Firefighters douse hot spots as containment grows for brush fire near Potrero County Park [Breaking]
Firefighters successfully dug a containment line around a fire that burned some 65 acres near Potrero County Park, and they continued to douse hot spots Monday afternoon, Cal Fire officials said.about 2:40 p.m. Sunday east of the regional park — which includes 37 campsites — on Potrero Park Drive, officials said.
The fire spread east as firefighters battled the flames on the ground and from eight aircraft, including water-dropping helicopters and tankers, officials said.Authorities issued an evacuation order for some homes on Potrero Park Drive. Other homes were under an evacuation warning. Residents in about 20 of the 50 or so homes in the area left, Cal Fire Capt. Brent Pascua said.
Potrero Valley Road was closed between state Route 94 and Potrero Park Drive, and SR-94 was shut down between Potrero Valley Road and Harris Ranch Road. About 4:40 p.m., crews halted the spread of the flames. The road closures and the evacuation order and warning were lifted about an hour later. On Monday afternoon, officials pegged containment at 50 percent. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
