“There’s always America pushing us, egging us, ‘Go, go!’ They’re using me as bait [to get China]. What do you think of Filipinos, earthworms?” he said in a mix of English and Filipino. While Duterte has since cooled off and considers U.S. President Donald Trump a “good friend,” his warm relationship with China continues to be a subject of criticism.
