Fire in La Mesa apartment causes $200K in damage [Breaking]
A fire in a second-story apartment in La Mesa caused around $200,000 before it was extinguished early Tuesday morning, a Heartland fire official said.
The blaze was reported shortly after 2 a.m. at the apartment building on Mellmanor Drive near Odessa Avenue, said Heartland fire spokesperson Andy McKellar. When crews arrived, they found flames showing from the second floor and called for a second alarm to bring in additional resources, McKellar said. “Out of caution they called that second alarm,” he said.The fire was knocked down in around 20 minutes. No injuries were reported. Ten adults and one child were displaced by the fire, and the Red Cross assisted three adults and a child with temporary housing, he said.Crews from San Diego and San Miguel assisted in the effort, he said.
