A fire broke out in a semi-detached house along East Coast Road in Singapore, leading to the evacuation of 35 residents. Firefighters from the SCDF swiftly contained the blaze, preventing injuries.

Firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force extinguished a blaze that engulfed a semi-detached house along East Coast Road on Sunday (Jan 5). The fire broke out at 12.45am at a three-storey house at 305 East Coast Road , prompting the SCDF to dispatch units from the Kallang and Paya Lebar Fire Stations. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames consuming the first floor and spreading upwards.

They conducted forcible entry, utilizing two water jets to contain the fire and deploying a combined platform ladder for aerial firefighting. The fire was fully controlled at around 3am. While the upper floors sustained smoke and burn damage, an adjacent unit was also partially affected. As a precautionary measure, approximately 35 residents from neighboring units were evacuated. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. Amanda Lee, a resident who was evacuated, expressed her gratitude to the firefighters, good samaritans, and emergency responders for their swift actions and ensuring the safety of the residents. The incident comes amidst an 8.6% increase in fire cases in 2023 compared to 2022, according to The Straits Times
