City of Charlottetown workers clear the debris from a fallen tree on Orlebar Street on Nov. 9. P.E.I. - Rafe Wright/The GuardianCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Cleanup from post-tropical storm Fiona has cost the City of Charlottetown more than $11 million – a bill that is likely going to climb.
The interim CAO said she has had informal assurances from staff that costs that won’t be covered will not impact the budget. Waddell said the city will save money on projects that were budgeted but put off due to Fiona, for example. That’s because Communities Minister Jamie Fox asked the city to administer the residential property cleanup program, which falls under the jurisdiction of the provincial government.
