Volunteers donated their time at Big Cat Rescue to help exotic cats survive and return back to the wild.

The BCR is a real nonprofit organization registered with the state of Florida. The sanctuary was not a business model that would make money and pay its employees. The volunteers had paying jobs outside of BCR or were still attending high school. Interns lived in off-site houses provided by BCR and were given a weekly $50 stipend to buy groceries.
This writer was surprised to find out that none of the volunteers were allowed physical contact with the caged animals. No one was allowed to touch or cuddle with the animals, as if they were pets. Volunteers were asked to leave if they broke this cardinal rule. Cat_Intern added,"It's important to note that all of these rabbits rats and chicks arrive dead. They come in a freezer truck, and sometimes have some blood frozen to their fur. It's a bit sad, but it's a sanctuary for carnivorous animals."
