You can\u0027t go wrong with Rebecca Hall and Tim Roth. Or so I thought

She plays Margaret, a single mother and a successful executive at a pharmaceutical company, whose life starts to come unglued after she catches sight of her abusive ex-boyfriend David at a conference. What might be a coincidence is quickly revealed to be nothing of the sort.

Hall has had an oddly bifurcated career, appearing in light romantic roles but also a selection of horror and horror-adjacent titles like. She knows how to show dread, and can dial it from zero to 11 as required. Roth, meanwhile, has played memorable villains right from his first onscreen role as a skinhead in 1982’sThey’re great to watch, but the screenplay, from writer/director Andrew Semans, pulls some of its punches and pushes too hard on others.

In the best-case scenario you may start to doubt your own sanity where the film is concerned. But watchingResurrection opens July 29 at the Lightbox in Toronto.
