OLIVER PAIPOONGE – They couldn't preserve the shutout for goaltender Eric Vanska, but the Kam River Fighting Walleye did get to add another victory to the win column.

The Walleye, hosting the second annual Orange Wave Indigenous Night at the Norwest Arena, on Friday got goals from Holden Woodcroft, Max Leduc and Euan Morrison and went on to defeat their crosstown rival Thunder Bay North Stars 3-1 in their 2022-23 home opener. Dimitri Trahiotis had the lone goal for the North Stars , beating Vanska with 38 seconds to go in regulation.

The teams will play a rematch on Saturday night at Fort William Gardens, marking the North Stars home opener.
