The military command of the Tigrayan forces accused the government of violating the ceasefire, saying in a statement it believed the southern attack was a diversion and their forces expected a major attack from the west. Ethiopian government spokesperson Legesse Tulu, military spokesperson Col Getnet Adane, Amhara regional spokesperson Gizachew Muluneh and the prime minister's spokesperson Billene Seyoum didn’t respond to requests for comment.

In June, the government formed a committee to negotiate with the TPLF and earlier this month the government said it wanted talks “with no preconditions". Tigray’s government has called for the restoration of services to civilians before talks begin.

International Civil Servant Accuses World of Racism Over TigrayInternational Civil Servant Accuses World of Racism Over Tigray"I can tell you that the humanitarian crisis in Tigray is more than Ukraine, without any exaggeration," World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has told a news conference. Yet, he added, the world was giving too little attention to the Tigray crisis: "[M]aybe the reason is the colour of the skin of the people in Tigray. I haven't heard in the last few months, several months now, even a head of state talking about the Tigray condition anywhere, in the developed world especially." But the Ethiopian Federal Government has hit back, saying the international civil servant, who is of Tigrayan origin, is guilty of "unethical" conduct and his comments were "unbecoming" of a person who held such a high post. "Nowhere in the world would you see this level of cruelty, where a government punishes six million of its people for more than 21 months by denying them basic services," the WHO chief added. In January, Addis Ababa accused Tedros of supporting the Tigray People's Liberation Front.
