is calling for the investment in new science opportunities as harvesters are reporting an abundance of mackerel, despite Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray placing a moratorium on mackerel fishing.
The union added that the department’s assessments and management plans do not reflect the knowledge of fish harvesters. FFAW-Unifor alleges the department has failed to address their concerns or take advantage of new stock survey opportunities and instead declared a moratorium.
