Mamelodi Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba has backed former assistant coach Steve Komphela's decision to accept the head coach position at DStv Premiership rivals Swallows FC. Read more ▶️
Komphela on Sunday announced his departure as head coach Rulani Mokwena's long-time ally to take over the helm at the Dube Birds. The former Kaizer Chiefs tactician's first competitive match in charge by a turn of fate will be an MTN8 quarter-final clash against Mokwena's Sundowns.
“I don’t believe it’s an issue of losing trust, most of the coaches today want to work with people they can control,” Feutmba tells“It’s not about trust, It’s about making sure you are working with people who can understand your vision, and they are under your full control. “There’s also a possibility that Mokoena was not feeling confident in terms of having two experienced coaches who have been there for many years as assistants.
“I don’t know who is going to be his assistant, but there has to be some reason for Mokwena to want to bring his own people in.“But, it’s a good thing that Komphela left because he also deserves to be a head coach elsewhere, Manqoba the same.“I believe maybe from time to time, the management called Manqoba or Steve and asked for their view on certain matters, without letting Mokwena know.“As a coach, it gives you confidence knowing that you have the full backing of the people around you.
“Don’t forget Rulani has been around, he was once an assistant to Pitso Mosimane, and he achieved a lot already, so it’s a matter of continuing. to read and post comments. For 14 free days, you can have access to the best from Soccer Laduma, KickOff, Daily Sun, TrueLove and Drum.
