The Democratic senator disagreed with the vice president for warning Israel there could be “consequences” if it invades Rafah.
Fetterman has staunchly taken Israel’s side ever since Hamas’s brutal Oct. 7 attack. Amid cries for a ceasefire to ensure aid and safety for Palestinians under heavy Israeli fire, the Pennsylvania Democrat has maintained his support for Israel while denouncing Hamas.
Meanwhile, Harris suggested the administration could dole out consequences to Israel if it invades Rafah, where the majority of Palestinians in Gaza have fled to,Sunday. According to Harris, “there’s nowhere for those folks to go” should the Israel Defense Forces enter Rafah, so she will “rule out nothing” in terms of consequences.
“Hard disagree,” Fetterman wrote on X, along with a screenshot of Harris’s interview. “Israel has the right to prosecute Hamas to surrender or to be eliminated. Hamas owns every innocent death for their cowardice hiding behind Palestinian lives.”March 24, 2024 Fetterman’s stance in support of Israel’s continued military efforts has brought the ire of many progressive Democrats. In January, protesters camped outside his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, and chanted that the senator was “supporting genocide.” Fetterman said the same month that the progressive movement“My friend Sen. Fetterman is correct—Israel is working to bring every single hostage home, including Americans, and ensure October 7 never happens again,” Sen. Katie Britt said.
In Fetterman’s Washington, D.C. office, pictures of hostages will remain on display, according to the senator, until they are all returned. Hamas is believed to still hold more than 100 hostages.
