The Department of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to hire German influencers to promote poutine and Canadian foods for Oktoberfests.

“Posts must include the development of recipes, videos and background information on Canadian foods,” said the notice Marketing, Social Media Management And Promotion Services For The Taste Of Canada Campaign. The department said it wanted a “long-term marketing and promotional strategy to raise awareness and increase visibility of Canadian food and beverage products available in German, Austrian and Swiss markets.”

The Oktoberfest campaign follows a 2017 attempt by federal agencies to develop a distinctively all-Canadian meal for use in tourism promotions. “Canada faces certain challenges,” the tourism department said in a document Making Canada A Destination Of Choice For Travelers Seeking World-Class Culinary Experiences.In 1946, a federal campaign was launched for “development of a distinctive Canadian cuisine” without success.
